The artisan
Rompicapo in Legno is a small artisan business that has been working wood and metal for more than thirty years, making and selling a variety of objects and puzzles. Their production meets a medium-to-high quality standard, and everything is strictly handmade. Since 2011 it has been listed in the register of Artistic and Traditional Craftsmanship, bearing the 1M “Marche Eccellenza Artigiana” mark.
The puzzles they make (although some are similar in shape to the ones usually imported) stand out for their VERY HIGH QUALITY craftsmanship and for the type of wood used, strictly solid wood (usually FINE WOODS such as white maple, sapele mahogany, beech, black walnut, ovangkol, padauk, wengé, etc.).
A special feature of their wooden games is that they are not treated with paints or with more or less toxic solvent-based lacquers, but are given a natural wax or lacquer finish that makes them smooth to the touch, removing any hazard.
The metal ones, as well as being hard enough never to lose their shape, all have excellent nickel plating. This treatment keeps them shiny and pleasing to the eye over time.
The workshop is in the city of Ancona in the Marche region.

Helped by the school’s technical focus, meeting “the puzzle artisan” and his work intrigued the classes involved in the programme more than anything else.
