Our tinkering activities

Tinkering is a training ground for aspiring makers that teaches you to “think with your hands”, an educational method to bring children and young people closer to STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) in a practical, playful way.

During tinkering sessions the science communicator gives participants a goal to reach, helping them spark their imagination to find their own way to get there, using only a few materials. Participants are also encouraged to learn to adapt and to work with others when needed. The science communicator will bring all the materials needed for the activity.

If you have any questions or special requirements, don’t hesitate to contact us!

The tinkering station

We also design and build the tinkering station: a cabinet on wheels with all the materials neatly organised, ready for your school, museum or venue.

The activities

  • Flying objects

What shape does an object need to take flight? How heavy, or how light, does it have to be? How should the weight be spread across the surface? With this tinkering activity we’ll answer all these questions by experimenting with our own hands, building, adapting and shaping our flying objects, then watching them fly in the wind tunnel!

  • Scribbling machines

A motor, two batteries, a few felt-tip pens: that’s all you need for a scribbling machine, everything else is in our heads! A chance to compare ideas, reflect, invent and share projects with your neighbour, with one single goal: scribbling all over our sheet of paper!

  • Scribbling machines – solar

How can you use the energy produced by a solar panel to make our scribbling machine move? It’s up to you to find out; all we can tell you is that the result is great fun!

  • Soft circuits

Discovering electrical circuits through creativity and the tactile pleasure of modelling dough, in a blend of art, science and technology.
